Wilders’trial has become a farce

The trial of MP Geert Wilders on charges of inciting hatred and discrimination took a new twist today when a senior court official wrote a weblog entry saying the legal proceedings should not have been suspended.

A special panel at Amsterdam district court halted the trial on October 22 and ordered it start again with new judges because the chief judge had acted in a way which could be prejudicial.

But writing in his own name on the legal blog njblog.nl, high court advocate general Diederik Aben said the case against Wilders should not have been suspended pending the appointment of new judges.

Supposedly, he wrote the item at the request of Amsterdam judge Jan Moors, who was at the centre of the controversy.

Wilders’ lawyer Bram Moszkovicz said it was ‘incomprehensible’ that a high court advocate general had made such a statement and said the trial had become a ‘farce’

Gerard Spong, a lawyer representing some of the people taking legal action against Wilders, said Aben was exercising his right to freedom of speech.

Nevertheless, the trial had become ‘a bit of a farce’, Spong said.

The trial should be removed from the Amsterdam court and continued elsewhere with new officials, he said.

The public prosecution department, which itself had been forced to take the case by the appeal court, asked for all charges against Wilders to be dismissed.

It is not clear when the trial will now take place.

Woman found dead in Wassenaar Mansion

Jan and Reineke de Lange in happier times
jan de lange-reineke de lange
Reineke de Lange (37) (photo) was found dead in her home, Villa Nijenorst, Koekoekslaan 3 in Wassenaar, The Netherlands. She was stabbed to death.

At half past 1 her husband, self-made millionaire Jonkheer Jan H. de Lange (49) alarmed rescue services saying ‘something terrible had happened in the Villa. Jan de Lange was arrested.

Update: Reineke is the 2nd wife of Jonkheer de Lange, who just came out of a bitter divorce.
De Lange had an argument with his ex-partner regarding the alimony settlement. De Lange argued that he had to overdraw on Ltd (Pink & Nelson) in order to pay the alimony. An attempt to have his company act as an interested party in the alimony provisions was recently rejected by the Supreme Court.

Unless De Lange has confessed, is not at all certain that he has killed his wife: he has only called the police, saying “something had happened.”
On April 6, the Turk A. A. was aquitted for the second time (appeal) acquitted of murdering his wife Cevriye, for lack of evidence: His story: “I had been out cycling and when I came back my wife was dead.”  Stabbed with a bread knife, nine times,  in the back. Court and Appelate Court: “yes, that is not impossible.”

If the Jonkheer keeps his mouth shut and gets himself a good lawyer, chances are he will walk. “All of his neighbors do confirm that he was happy with his new wife. What reason could he have had to kill her your honor?”

Jan de Lange however, seemed very happy with his new –only six month old- marriage.
De Lange is  one of the sponsors behind the website 'geenonschuldigenvast.nl’, founded by Maurice de Hond pleading the ‘Deventer murder case’.
De Lange also was the man who provided the 120,000 euros in damages for libel that Maurice de Hond had to pay to the “handyman”.

De Lange also funded several other projects that were critical towards the Justice department. Previously he had stated that the lawyers in his divorce case were ‘a bunch of feminist lesbians’

*Jonkheer is not a peerage title, but a ‘predicate’ used by titleless peers. One exception is the Orange Nassau family: Contrary to the rules of nobility, ‘Jonkheer’ is carried as a title (by the children of Jonkheer (‘Junker’) Claus von Amsberg). But then again: The House of Orange determines the rules of nobility in the Netherlands

Outrage over Joran van der Sloot is disproportionate

The outrage that has risen again about the recent "confession" of Joran van der Sloot, as usual takes on grotesque forms and really makes one wonder whether people commenting on forums even know what they're talking about.

‘Waterboarding in Guantanamo,’ ‘lock him up and throw away the key ‘, ‘a knee shot / head schot’, ‘torturing till he confesses,’ ‘he must speak the truth’, are the general remarks in various internet fora and discussion boards, apart from comments about his appearance from which some people seem to be able to read his "guilt" ( “upon only seeing his pig-like features, you already know that he is guilty”).

Guilty? To what then? What do people really want Joran to confess? He already confessed that he was present at the death of Natalee, and that he -helped by another- got rid of her body. Granted, there are 2 different stories, but his role in these stories remains the same. Varying statements are generally seen as even further evidence of guilt. That the DA’s office thinks that this is not enough for a conviction is their problem.

But suppose he is prosecuted abd convicted based on these confessions, what will be in store for Joran then? Unlawful disposition of a corpse carries a maximum 6 months sentence. Joran already served that in custody. Even with a conviction he will walk right out of the court because he already served his sentence. Ready, out, over!

Is Joran a nice person? Well, by now he doesn’t really seem so. Maybe he once was a nice guy to get a beer with, but like many children of ex-pats in the Antilles: money, nice weather, a constant fresh supply of female tourists, the relative carelessness of the ongoing holiday atmosphere on a tropical island probably made him feel like he could easily get away with things.

That someone of his age when suddenly faced with someone dying on him, does not think clearly and goes for a short term easy way out, is something I can understand –not condone, but understand. That subsequently one lie leads to another is wrong, foolish and stupid but it is human, despite the tragedy for the parents who lose their daughter. Nevertheless, after some time one should realize it is best to come clean. I can however imagine that the aggressiveness with which Beth Holloway, the world press and the FBI made him scared and head-shy thinking: "Well now I must hold on to my story." Inexcusable, stupid, but explainable. That he however now dragged and drags mony others (parents, the mysterious "A" and "Daury ') into it, is not so nice.

What do people really want Joran to confesses now that his confessions present only lead to more outrage? There is certainly a large group of people who want him to confesses the ‘truth’ as they see it in their own imagination. It seems that Joran will only be believed if he confesses he abducted the virgin Natalee, while she was reading a bible, has drugged her, horribly tortured her, raped her (in a gang-bang with 6 black guys), after which he laughingly fed her to the sharks alive for no other reasons that that pleased him. The more horrible the better for him to be believed by a number of people.

Is it likely that Joran killed Natalee? No. Granted, we know nothing for certain but there is nothing to suggest that Joran was violent. Given the stories and photos on his blog, he could get enough girlfriends and one night stands and there is nothing to suggest that Natalee was not in for a bit of holiday romance.

I’ll just stick to the belief that he is only guilty of disposing of a body, for which which he -uncondemned- has already served the maximum sentence. One can certainly blame for him for waiting so long before he confessed what has happened and it he is certainly to blame for telling several versions, including the story in which he implied his father that he sold to Fox’ Greta van Susteren for 100,000 USD.

Joran is obviously not in an enviable position. His education came to a halt and he became public enemy number one, with a recognizable face and a recognizable name. His future has been smashed (yes, I know Natalee has no future and her parents have a ‘life sentence’, but that's not the point here) and he will need to find a way to generate income. Apparently he does that selling his story time after time, and fair is fair, he does not have many other options and people can hardely dislike him even more than he already is.

Yet the public outrage is disproportionate if for example one looks at other people who have something to answer for:

  1. Hugo Nijkamp, who beheaded his girlfriend Vanessa Williams in Suriname, escaped and subsequently got government contracts. After he was exposed he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. Apart from some public outrage when his case got some attention again, everybody already forgot about him and he can soon get back to work as a free man.
  2. People like the very violent Genneper Park Rapist, or Manno K. who ‘fist raped’ his ex-girlfriend into a permanent anal incontinence needing an anus prenaturalis (a "stoma") and into mental break down, are in general much more deserving of our outrage than Joran van der Sloot. Yet they remain in reasonable anonymity, spared from the 'Gesundenes Volksempfinden' and after serving their relatively low sentence of 4 years they again pick up their lives undisturbed.
  3. The Red Light District in Amsterdam (or in any other city), is filled with an army of woman-traffickers, rapists and abusers. They live in anonymity and even if they are prosecuted and convicted their names and mugshots rarely make the newspaper headlines and people will certainly not be stirred up against them as did SBS6 against Joran the Natalee Holloway case.

Joran is certainly not choir boy, but I think the witch hunt set upon him, instead of upon much shadier characters, says more about society than about Joran.

Albayrak does not want to extradite Joma Sison

joma-sison-kim-jong-il
According to under minister Albayrak, the Netherlands wil not extradite Filipino communistenleader José Maria Sison* for now.

She writes that as a reply to questions of the PVV, who wants to have Sison removed from the Netherlands ASAP.

Albayrak  agrees with Geert Wilders’ fraction that the Netherlands can be no free heaven for terrorists and criminals and that Sison should answer to a judge in the Philippines for the anguish he supposedly caused there. However she also says that she has to respect Human Rights and International treaties, such as the European Treaty of Human Rights.

Op grounds of article 3 of the Treaty it is not possible to extradite Sison because the article states that no one may be subject to torture or inhumane or humiliating treatment or punishment. The fact that the death penalty is abolished in the Philippines does not make any difference according to Albayrak.

Romulo Kintanar, murdered
romulo kintanar
The Public Prosecutors Office stopped prosecuting Sison earlier this year for his supposed role in 3 murders in the Philippines because of lack of evidence. The founder of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and her armed branch the New People's Army (NPA) (Tagalog: Bagong Hukbong Bayan) was arrested end of August 2007 in his residence Utrecht. Sison was suspected of ordering the murders of two political opponents Romulo Kintanar (2003) en Arturo Tabara (2004), committed in the Philippines. During the murder in 2004 also Tabara's son in law, Stephen Ong was killed.

Eventhough the Netherlands cannot extradite Sison (according to Albayrak), he is obliged to leave the country. However, Albayrak doubts this is possible because the chance that another country will just send the man back to the Netherlands. (Or preferably to the Philippines of course)

This in itself is odd because if Sison indeed cannot be extradited to the Philippines (something I question) then there still is an extremely suitable country to offer refuge to JoMa Sison: North Korea.

Long live Comrade Kim Jong Il!
Long live the Korean people!
Long live international solidarity!

Long live Comrade Kim Jong Il!
Long live the Korean People!
Long live the solidarity between the Filipino people and Korean people!
Coni Ledesma
From the link: Greetings To Comrade Kim Jong Il on his Birthday it is clear that the North Korean ruler is admired highly by the CPP and NDFP (National Democratic Front of the Philippines) for ‘what he has meant to North Korea'.

And who do we find on this list of ‘dignitaries’ who fall over themselves in gratulating Kim Il Young with his Birthday? The JoMa Sison croonies Louis Jalandoni en his wife Coni Ledesma. Fellow founders of the  CPP and founders of the (forbidden) NDFP. Ledesma is also an avid 'spokeswoman' for Sison.

With such cordial ties between the  CPP/NDFP surely there must be some place for Sison in Noord Korea?

One cannot help but wonder why Sison (and also Ledesma and Jalandoni) are seeking refuge in the Netherlands rather than in the so admired North Korea.

Ledesma writes for instance:

MAKIBAKA, a revolutionary organization of Filipino women and an allied organization in the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), extends warmest birthday greetings to Comrade Kim Jong Il, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and Chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic Peoples’ Republic of Korea.

From his early years, Comrade Kim Jong Il has been involved in revolutionary work to build and strengthen the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. He took over the reins of government after the death of his father, Kim Il Sung. Under his leadership, the Korean people have continued to build Korea as a strong nation, uphold and defend its independence and sovereignty, overcome natural disasters and persevere in building socialism.
He has earned the love and respect of the Korean people because of his continued efforts to safeguard the gains of the revolution and build a better world for them. His untiring efforts at working for the peaceful reunification of Korea answer the long cherished dream of the Korean people.

The Korean women appreciate the achievements of their nation under the leadership of Comrade Kim Jong Il.
We wish Comrade Kim Jong Il many more fruitful years of service to the people.

Long live Comrade Kim Jong Il!
Long live the Korean People!
Long live the solidarity between the Filipino people and Korean people!

Well, if that is not crazy then what is. There might be a lot wrong in the Philippines but it is endlessly better than in the CPP/NDFP admired socialist paradise North Korea.

The Hunt for Malika Karoum | more Gossip but now in a book

malika boek2 The story of Malika Karoum is no doubt widespread by now: Spy, Mata Hari, Fraud, Money-laundering but all these stories seem to go back to gossip spread by her ex-husband and a fundamentalistic kid-hunter in  what is not more than an ugly custody battle.

Now there is a book (“Klopjacht op Malika” = “The Hunt for Malika”) about the story that in its announcements promised to finally reveal the truth. The fact that the book is written by Jan Libbenga, a reporter for Dutch Tabloid ‘Revu’, should cast some doubt about that statement. Libbenga after all,  ‘broke the story’ about Malika’s alleged Mata-Hari life.

Reading the book indeed confirms that suspicion. It is ‘more of the same’. There is ample space for kid-hunter Jacques Smit to repeat the unfounded gossip he has been spreading in the past, but now it is ‘substantiated’ by the stories of a certain ‘Rafiq’ who supposedly is the man who ‘supposedly’ contracted and trained Malika to work for ‘the intelligence service’.

Rafiq has no reliability. There is no proof for any of his stories and he could be anyTom, Dick or Harry, with a big fantasy, that was picked of the street.

One thing is clear: Rafiq is mentally instable. After Malika (alledgedly) informs him that she is quitting. He has an emotional meltdown that includes black-outs and a trance state in which he ended up in the Netherlands without remembering how. Typically the sort of guy that would get through the rigourous mental selection spies are said to go through.

It is all beautiful stories, but again, not a shread of convincing proof

It only proves that gossip can ruin a person's life

Malika Karoum accuses ex-husband of smear campaign

Dutch Tabloid ‘Revu’ last week published an article about Dubai real estate executive Malika Karoum, describing how she was extradited from Dubai to Egypt and sentenced to 28 months jail time for money laundering.

Like all stories about Malika Karoum, this latest story is also a fluke. In an interview with Dubai’s 24/7’s  Muna Ahmad, Karoum says these stories are made up by her ex husband to damage her reputation, career and life.

"This whole story has been created by my ex-husband and his private detective," she said. "I was shocked to see my picture on the front page of your paper. I am Malika Karoum and I have been living and working in Dubai for the past three years.

"I have no problem with any authorities or police. Call any of my ex-employees and check with them. The only correct thing in this article is that I have worked for Omniyat, Define and ACI.

"My ex-husband started this and there is a long dispute between us over custody rights for our son. He says anything to destroy me and destroy my reputation by saying I am a spy and mafia and a fraud."

Karoum alleged her ex-husband was a fugitive and accused him of spreading lies about her on the internet. "All these blogs are created by my ex-husband and a private detective. He has been doing this for the past six years through my family and friends. When it didn't work he started with the media."

This is not the first time Karoum is the victim of wrongful claims in tabloid ‘Revu’. The rumours are spread by an overzelous private investigator and child abductor Jaques Smit. These stories sadly have been copied critique-less by other media.

At the end of 2008 however, there seemed to be a brief turning point: Ex husband Mohamed Boulnouar fled after stealing a large sum of money from Muslims wanting to travel to Saoudi Arabia for the Hadj and child-abductor Smits was put on tape, admitting all the allegations were not true. When the court appointed custody of her child to Malika in december 2008, it seemed the end of the story.

Unfortunately nothing was further from the truth as Boulnouar and Smits seem to be at it again with their gossip. Gossip that serves no other purpose than to damage Karoum’s career.

On various occasions the Dutch Justice Department has declared that Karoum is not a suspect in any criminal case. The allegations were and are false.

Customer beaten to death by cab driver

Rob Sitek, just had become a dad again
rob sitek
Rob Sitek (44), a father of three, was beaten so severely by taxi driver Sidi Mohamed Belghiti (37) from Den Haag/The Hague, Sunday morning on Leidseplein in Amsterdam, that he died shortly thereafter in the hospital. Sitek wanted to take a cab home but thought the price was inflated. Reason for the cab driver, a former Moroccan kickboxer to beat him full in the face. Belghiti was arrested by policemen witnessing the scene.

Paramedics seemed to initially be able to revive the severely injured  man. That same afternoon however he died in a hospital without having regained consciousness.

The crime took place around 4.20 am at the taxistand at leidseplein. Sitek had said goodbye to his brother André with whom he had been out and had wanted to eat a snack before taking a taxi home. There have been complaints about the cabdrivers at this spot for some time already. They refuse short rides, inflate prices, take customers for a ride, fight, intimidate customers and hassle women. Leidseplein however is not the only taxi trouble spot in Amsterdam. In fact, taking a taxi anywhere in Amsterdam is a big risk, both for your wallet, as well for yor safety..

Job –try to keep things together by drinking tea- Cohen fortunately is ‘shocked’. Well, I guess it all will be allright then.
Job-Cohen_kopje-thee

Amsterdam alderman  Hans Gerson (63) (traffic) wants to take emergency measures at Leidseplein. He said that most likely next weak already, extra watchmen will be placed at Leidseplein, as already has been done since june at the taxi stand at Central Station, another known trouble spot regarding cabbie behaviour.

The alderman also is going to insist to politicians in The Hague to speed up the new taxi-law. The problems in the Amsterdam taxi wold –according to the alderman- begun in 2000 when the scene was liberalised. Ever since everybody may operate a cab. De  „We have slowly come into a well known emergency situation, so it should not be so difficult to get this done” said alderman Gerson.

Ron Sitek, paramedic of the year, was also priviliged to get acquainted with the tolerance of certain ‘new’ Dutch citizens.
Ron sitek
Rob Sitek is the brother of André Sitek (46), ex- pro soccerplayer in Haarlem, and of  paramedic and Amsterdam citizen of the year Ron Sitek (53) (photo). Ron Sitek himself received death threaths last year while he was tending to a Moroccan man who was stabbed. He received these threaths from the brother of the victim. VZA-ambulance service went on strike out of protest that same night.

Rob Sitek, is father to three daugthers: two teenagers and one of 11 months old. The family is shaken by the taxi violence. They say that the violence could easily have been prevented if government had taken action against the violence in the taxi world earlier. Thanks a lot The Hague [The Hague is where the government is]'', “says Sitek. Amsterdamse mayor Job Cohen (61) (labour) has called Sitek ‘personally’ on Sunday, to offer his condoleances. He is  -the standard phrase for Dutch politicians- 'shocked' by the incident.

Best not get into this guys cab, better yet, don’t even inquire about the fare
TravisBickleHR

“If he dies I kill you” is what paramedic Ron Sitek was tolld last year while he was trying to save a life. On June 17 juni,  Abdullah S., who threathened Ron, was sentenced to  30 uur hours of community service. He also received a jailsentence of 30 day, of which 14 where suspended. He already had spent 16 days in custody so he could walk right out of court.

Mayor Cohen, in a fast reaction, wanted a new taxi law fast. In that he is right. If there is one business where there is daily proof that an open market can spiral out of control, then it is the Amsterdam taxi-business.

Nederland, 's-Gravenhage, 11 september 2007. Tineke Huizinga, Christenunie, staatssecretaris Verkeer en Waterstaat. Foto: Ton Poortvliet/HH
State-traffic-secretary Tineke Huizinga (photo)  (Christen Unie) has promised to send a letter to the House this week in which she proposes to give local government more authority in the taxi world. Apparently, the driver exam that was put in plae in 2004 turned out to be of little effect in controlling the taxi business.

Well, this might be so, but one can hardly blame the mechanism of open market for what has now happened. The liberalisation of the taxi world to an open market has been law since 2000 in the whole of the Netherlands, whereas the problems seem to focus in Amsterdam.

Ther eis, in Amsterdam, with or without open market, a problem with public law and order. Thát is something that mayor Cohen and the police brass, should realise and feel responsible for and in fact be very very ashamed off. Also the most liberal opem market taxi law does not allow the frauding and killing of customers. That is already forbidden, by general law.

Gunman kills 1, wounds 3 at Rotterdam cafe

A man with a pistol killed one person and wounded three others at a cafe in the Dutch city of Rotterdam on Saturday morning, a police spokesman said.

Patrons at the cafe managed to capture the shooter, a 45-year-old man, and hold him until police arrived, Rotterdam Police spokesman Gerde Jung said.

Police arrested the man and recovered his weapon, Jung said.

The shooting was probably the the result of a quarrel the man had earlier, but details of that argument were unclear, Jung said.

All of the victims were male, he said.

Philippines wants extradition of Joma Sison

JoMa Sison with Philippine congress member and former vice-presidential candidate Loren Legarda in Utrecht, the Netherlands
joma-loren-legarda

The Philippine government will be asking the Netherlands for the extradition of Philippine communist leader José Maria (‘Joma’) Sison.

National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales said Sison still has to answer for the murder charges filed against him by the families of his former comrades whom he allegedly ordered killed. Gonzalez said that the Philippines has no extradition treaty with the Netherlands and that therefore another way must be found to get Sison in Manila.

Earlier this week (31 March) the Dutch Public Prosecutor’s office announced it wil no longer prosecute Sison for his possible involvement in various murders in the Philippines. Insufficient proof was found against Sison. In a reaction Sison yesterday asked to be taken of the EU-terrorist list.

The 70-year old founder of the Philippine Communist Party (CPP) and its armed branch, the New People's Army (NPA) was arrested Augustus 28, 2007 in his hometown of Utrecht, but was released shortly thereafter. Sison was suspected of having ordered the liquidation of former allies turned political opponents in the Philippines, from his exile in the Netherlands, as recent as 2003 and 2004. It concerns the murders on political opponents Romulo Kintanar (2003) en Arturo Tabara (2004), in the Philippines. During the 2004 murder Tabara's son in law, Stephen Ong, was also killed. Sison has denied any involvement.

Sison's name on the EU-terrorist list
sison-terroristenlijst
JoMa Sison’s name is on the international terrorist list. As a result, the Netherlands also put them on a terrorist list but removed him later. His name is still on the EU-terrorist list.

Sison is not recognized as a ligitimate ‘asylum seeker’ unlike for instance fellow compatriots (members of the NDF-National Democratic Front) Louis Jalandoni and his wife Coni Ledesma (ironically a former Jesuit priest and a former nun who were married by ‘what’s in a name’ Jaime ‘Cardinal Sin’ ). Both Jalandoni and his wife were the first Filipinos ever to be granted political asylum in the Netherlands (1976). Sison however has what could be called a ‘tolerance status’ and received a remuneration of the Dutch State (Supposedly his pension was halted following his placement on the terrorist list).

Philippino’s rally on Amsterdam’s Dam Square for the release of JoMa Sison 30 Augustus 2007
30-aug-2007
Sison was incarcerated in the Philippines for 9 years during the Marcos era. He was released by Marcos’successor Cory Aquino, supposedly as a trade for the CPP’s help in winning Cory the elections. Subsequently, while visiting the Netherlands in 1986, Sison learned that his passport was revoked. He made the Netherlands his home ever since.

In recent years, Joma Sison’s role and influence in the CPP has been an issue of debate. According to some he is now only a ‘couch communist’ clearly enjoying the benefits of living abroad, making the rounds at Dutch Filipino parties and who likes the travelling and hotel’s connected with his parttaking in the till now fruitless ‘peace talks’ between the NDF and the Philippino government. According to others (mainly out-lived and out-dated Belgian communist circles), he still wields a lot of influence in the CPP and NPA and gives his orders through ‘opinions’ in such a way he can’t be accused of supporting the NPA/CPP. According to Joma himself, he just want a ‘quiet life’.

Sison works at the NDF informatieoffice in Utrecht at the Amsterdamsestraatweg no. 50, Tel +31 30 2368722 and is available for interviews: Tel 030-2805781.

The NPA has claimed responsibility for the murder on Kintanar. After the murder NPA spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said:

It was absolutely correct to put an end to his rotten, criminal, counter-revolutionary and bloody record.

According to Joma Sison, Kintanar was killed by the NPA because he was a ‘counter-revolutionairy’ who worked for the government and 'resisted his arrest' by the NPA. According to others, his only fault was to question the leadership and ways of Joma Sison and therefore had turned his back on the party.

For those who sometimes miss the Commie rethoric of the seventies a quote of Marco Valbuena, media officer of the CPP on the website of the NDF info office, congratulating Sison with the prosecutor dropping charges:

"There will be no letup, however, in Comrade Sison’s struggle against continued efforts of the imperialists and the Philippine puppet reactionaries to persecute and stifle him," said the CPP. It pointed out to "other fascist and ‘legal’ instruments, including the sinister US and European Union’s ‘terrorist’ tag on Comrade Sison as well as the CPP and the NPA."

Great Britain welcomes those who preach terror and death. So why ban a Dutch MP with noxious yet non-violent views?

Britain wildersletter
Should we care that a Far-Right Dutch MP of whom most Britains have never heard has been banned from entering the UK? Much as one may abhor his beliefs, we should.

Geert Wilders had been invited to show his controversial 17-minute film called Fitna at a small gathering today at the House of Lords, but has now been prevented from doing so by the Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith.

It can, however, be easily viewed on YouTube — and has already been by hundreds of thousands of people.

His film links mainstream Islamic texts with the terrorist attacks on New York in September 2001. It begins with the hugely controversial cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed with a bomb as a turban. I must say that the film seems to me a crude — and pretty boring — piece of propaganda.

Its purpose is to demonise the Muslim faith by implying that it is essentially violent. The suggestion that the Koran is ‘a fascist book’ is bound to be offensive to millions of lawabiding and peaceful Muslims.

For all that, Fitna does not incite violence, and I doubt it offends against any British laws.

Why, then, should Mr Wilders have been banned from coming here? The Home Office was evidently concerned that the film might be deemed provocative by British Muslims.

Labour Peer Lord Ahmed
Lord Ahmed, a supposedly moderate Labour peer, had been reported as saying that he would mobilise 10,000 of his coreligionists if Mr Wilders were allowed to come here, though he strongly denies he ever said this.

The same Lord Ahmed invited an Al Qaeda terror suspect to visit Westminster three years ago.

The last thing the Home Office wanted was a confrontation between Mr Wilders and members of the British Muslim community.

So an age-old and cherished principle — that of free speech — has been torn up and thrown away.

No sensible person would suggest that a person be allowed to say whatever he wants in public.

The criminal law recognises that there should be limits to free speech — for example, by legislating against those inciting violence.

But there is no evidence that Mr Wilders’ film falls foul of such laws, and the Home Office has not suggested that it does.

It seems the Government is guilty of the most appalling double standards.

Whatever one may think of Mr Wilders, he is an elected representative and the leader of a perfectly legal political organisation called the Party For Freedom, which holds nine out of 120 seats in the Dutch Parliament.

He has never broken the law  (unlike Lord Ahmed) or threatened anyone with violence, though he faces a trial in the Netherlands for making anti-Islamic statements.

The Dutch government, though not at all friendly towards Mr Wilders, is right to have protested so strongly to the British Government at the exclusion of one of its own parliamentarians from another European Union nation.

Yet the British Government has indulged and protected a number of extreme imams who have gone far further than Mr Wilders in preaching hate.

Incompetent: Jacqui Smith
Jacqui Smith
For example, the radical cleric Abu Hamza was allowed to rail against homosexuals and women in bikinis for years before he was finally sentenced for soliciting murder.

As Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone embraced a Muslim cleric called Yusuf al-Qaradawi when he visited City Hall in 2005 with the full permission of HM Government.

Al-Qaradawi had been criticised for condoning suicide bombings and for having anti-Semitic and homophobic views.

Last November, the same Jacqui Smith, who now raises the drawbridge against Mr Wilders, granted a radical propagandist called Ibrahim Moussawi a six-month visa so that he could speak at a conference in London on Islam. Moussawi once allegedly described Jews as ‘a lesion on the forehead of history’.

There are endless examples of the Government turning a blind eye to extreme Islamists so that they are allowed to say whatever they want in this country.

Nor is it above accepting people who have been sentenced for serious non-religious offences, including a 61-year-old convicted paedophile who had lived in Australia for 56 years. Many people would judge him a much greater threat than Mr Wilders.

The gay activist and former Labour MP Peter Tatchell yesterday pointed out that Jacqui Smith has regularly given visas and work permits to Jamaican reggae singers who openly incite the murder of lesbian and gay people.

Tatchell mentioned the granting of a visa last year to a Jamaican singer called Bounty Killer. T. Though he was allowed into this country, he had been banned from Guyana earlier in 2008 on account of his murderous lyrics.

All kinds of undesirable people, some potentially dangerous, are welcomed to our shores, while a Dutch MP who is admittedly highly controversial but does not preach violence is told that he can’t come here.

Mr Wilders, who clearly relishes the publicity, is likely to make an attempt today to defy the Home Secretary’s ban but will almost certainly be thwarted.

Jacqui Smith — the most incompetent and accident-prone of ministers — has been cowed by a number of Muslim leaders such as Lord Ahmed who don’t want Mr Wilders here.

Welcome: Muslim hate cleric Dr Yusuf al-Qaradawi with Ken Livingstone
Yusuf al Qaradawi and Ken Livingstone

In fact, she is not doing decent Muslims any favour at all.

The tragedy is that Ms Smith’s decision will reinforce the view that Islam is an intolerant religion which will not allow its opponents to take part in public debate.

A more sensible note was struck yesterday by the Quilliam foundation, which exists to promote moderate Islam. It believes that however obnoxious and offensive the opinions of the Dutch MP may be, it is better to engage directly with him and answer his points rather than trying to shut him up.

This is in keeping with this country’s tolerant traditions towards free speech which Jacqui Smith does not respect. She does not want open debate. She does not value freedom. Again and again since 9/11, this Government has responded by clamping down on ancient liberties and restricting freedoms which we once took for granted.

The ban on Mr Wilders is one more turn of the screw. What has become of this once tolerant country?

Earlier this week, the Church of England’s General Synod voted in favour of banning priests from belonging to the British National Party which, however disgusting its views, is a legal organisation. Surely our established Church should be discouraging its priests from preaching anti-Christian or racist sermons — though I very much doubt that any of them do so — rather than setting out which organisations they may, or may not, belong to.

In the banning of Mr. Wilders there is a collision of two traditions — you could say a clash of cultures.

One, which is partly associated with the more extreme forms of Islam, opposes open debate and seeks to ban its opponents, or otherwise, to shut them up. The other, which is in the spirit of Western Enlightenment, accepts differences.

Voltaire famously said that he might not agree with his opponent’s beliefs, but he would fight to the death for his right to express them. Needless to say, that cowardly chump Jacqui Smith does not understand any of this. She bends her knee to the intolerant fanatics who will not take on the idiotic Geert Wilders, and in so doing she is guilty of further corrupting Britains precious values.

Disputed book Forbidden

barreveld family_l The Breda municipal court has ordered by injunction that the book about the death of Bebe Paña en Divina Urbi by author DJ Barreveld, must be taken out of circulation while distributed books need to be recalled in lieue of a penalty of 1000 Euro's per day. The same goes for a number of websites. The injunction was made against the "stichting Abot Kamay" and "Oriental Decorations", all owned by the female members of the Barreveld family (Spouse Leticia and daugthers Djanicella en Rubinoor). The judge ruled that the statements in the book were slanderous and 'very seriously damaging to the name of Paña's spouse'. The Barrevelds were also condemned to bear the legal cost.

The case was brought forward by the husband of the deceased Bebe Paña. He argued through his lawyer Kay Roderburg (Spong & Hammerstein advocaten) on 19 januari 2008, that the book was a compilation of slander and lies.

The author for instance stated that the husband was guilty of 3 murders while supposedly enjoying special protection of the prosecutors office.

During the proceedings the only counterargument was put up by Barreveld's spouse Leticia, ex-boardmember of Abot Kamay (all board members acutely stepped down when faced with the libel suit), the publisher of the book and also owner of 'Oriental Decorations' the owner of a slanderous website. Her defense was to 'play dumb': In spite of having been married to a Dutchman for 25 years and being on the board of a foundation claiming to facilitate integration of Filipina's in the Netherlands, Leticia Barreveld claimed not to speak Dutch, not to have read the book and not being able to write. This was genuinely playing dumb as she was freely speaking Dutch outside the courtroom and had written letters in Dutch that were included in the files.

The plaintiff showed that even the most simple and easy to check statements in the book were false. This was left uncontested by the defendand other than that the book was 'fantasy' telling how things 'could have happened'.

In an interview with local television, immediately after the proceedings Barreveld already had confessed that he had lied in the book.

It is highly uncommon that a book is forbidden in the Netherlands, the only other book being 'Mein Kampf'.

The Husband of Paña said he would also file criminal charges against Barreveld, slander being a crime with a maximum jail sentence of 2 years.

Barreveld stated after the verdict that he had not suffered any financial damages since the book was being published through on-line publisher Lulu.

On the BOL.com website the following reviews of this book could be found:

Badly written and fantasy
The book seems to be the personal fantasy of the writer, the mantra being: "I know everything better and if the police and crimereporter Peter de Vries had only listened to me, then things would have worked out fine". Barreveld's statements apparently already were discarded as fairy tales during the criminal trial and before that by crime reportre de Vries (as Barreveld himself -clearly irrited- notes). From his statements about grounds for supreme court appeal ('two judges who have come to totally opposite conclusions') and the function of the CEAS, it becomes appearant that he has no knowledge whatsoever of the judicial process. Obviously he has been abraod too long. Clearly he was thinking: "if De Vries can make money on Joran, I can make it on this case". Badly written, longwinded (and no doubt untrue) stories on how good he himself is and the other statements are lies as he now has admitted himself in a TV interview. The fantasies of a marginal witness with Megalomania. If you want to write a book about a case, stick to the facts. If you want to make up a story, write a novel.

taalgebruik

Language
This writer was either abroad for a long time or he has not had his book edited. A lot of spelling mistakes and typo's. On average 4 on every page! Also the formatting (frequently with multiple spaces between words) is horrible. And then there is the content. There has been a lot of research, but the story line is unlogical and sometimes hard to follow. The book seems mostly a personal feud van Barreveld against the main suspect. I gather that from the drive to argue the most insignificant facts but also from the fact that Barreveld was one of the witnesses that was heard by the police. Let's hope that a next print comes out better.

duur

expensive
An excess of linguistical errors and typo's, strange sentences, detours and bad formatting: This publication is amateuristic and I may hope that the author makes some adaptations in the next print. His personal interests and the rather non-factual foundation ("What I did not know I made up myself according to logic") are the main focus. This book is very expensive for what you get.

Distributer Lulu.com already had stopped distributing the book prior to the verdict because of breach of agreement.

This criticism on Bareveld seems not to be restricted to this one book. Barreveld seems to make a profession out of writing unfounded, ill-written books in an a continuous attempt to make a 'quick buck'. Customer Reviews on a few more of his books are e.g. as follows:

No wonder the author got this book out so soon after Enron's fall. He filled the book with the work of others and then threw in old essays on the failures of capitalism that have no connection to the Enron scandal. Don' waste your money on this book.

(Over: The Enron Collapse: Creative Accounting, Wrong Economics or Criminal Acts?)

Let's make a quick buck after 9/11 by pumping out a book on terrorism, When I first began reading this book I was taken aback by how horrible the writing was. It is for the most part grammatically incorrect. My fears were partially allayed when I read on the back cover that the author was in fact Dutch, and did not speak English as his first language. While I would have thought the publisher should have taken responsibility for cleaning up the writing, I gave the book a second chance and continued reading. It became abundantly clear that the author had very little in depth knowledge of the Abu Sayaf group. The entire first quarter of the book is nothing but filler explaining Islam and the concept of martyrdom in very generic and in places incorrect terms. What little I could stomach reading further when the author actually began to write about the ASG was also very generic and partially incorrect, or at least in contradiction to other writing on the subject. I have no way to determine if the author's sources are in fact more authentic because he fails to cite anything of significance. The few endnotes that he has for each chapter are almost exclusively from secondary sources. The only explanation I can come up with for the publishing of this book was that the publisher saw an opportunity to make a quick buck shortly after 9/11 by publishing a book with the words "Terrorism" and "Bin Laden" on the cover. If you are looking for a well researched and informative book on this topic I would recommend Militant Islam in Southeast Asia by Zachary Abuza.

Amsterdam Court of Appeal orders the criminal prosecution of the Member of Parliament of the Dutch Second Chamber Geert Wilders

geert On 21 January 2009 the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam ordered the criminal prosecution of the member of parliament Geert Wilders for the incitement to hatred and discrimination based on his statements in various media about moslims and their belief. In addition, the Court of Appeal considers criminal prosecution obvious for the insult of Islamic worshippers because of the comparisons made by Wilders of the islam with the nazism.

The Court of Appeal rendered judgment as a consequence of a number of complaints about the non-prosecution of Wilders for his statements in various media about moslims and their belief. The complainants did not agree with the decision of the public prosecution which decided not to give effect to their report against Wilders.

The public prosecution is of the view, amongst others, that part of the statements of Wilders do not relate to a group of worshippers, but consists of criticism as regards the Islamic belief, as a result of which neither the self-esteem of this group of worshippers is affected nor is this group brought into discredit. Some statements of Wilders can be regarded as offending, but since these were made (outside the Dutch Second Chamber) as a contribution to a social debate there is no longer a ground for punishableness of those statements according to the public prosecution.

The Court of Appeal does not agree with this view of the public prosecution and the considerations which form the basis of this view.

The Court of Appeal has considered that the contested views of Wilders (also as shown in his movie Fitna) constitute a criminal offence according to Dutch law as seen in connection with each other, both because of their contents and the method of presentation. This method of presentation is characterized by biased, strongly generalizing phrasings with a radical meaning, ongoing reiteration and an increasing intensity, as a result of which hate is created. According to the Court of Appeal most statements are insulting as well since these statements substantially harm the religious esteem of the Islamic worshippers. According to the Court of Appeal Wilders has indeed insulted the Islamic worshippers themselves by affecting the symbols of the Islamic belief as well.

Secondly, the Court of Appeal has answered the question whether a possible criminal prosecution or conviction would be admissible according to the norms of the European Convention on Human Rights and the jurisprudence of the European Court based thereon, which considers the freedom of expression of paramount importance. The Court of Appeal has concluded that the initiation of a criminal prosecution and a possible conviction later on as well, provided that it is proportionate, does not necessarily conflict with the freedom of expression of Wilders, since statements which create hate and grief made by politicians, taken their special responsibility into consideration, are not permitted according to European standards either.

Thirdly, the Court of Appeal has answered the question whether criminal prosecution of Wilders because of his statements would be opportune in the Dutch situation (the question of opportunity). According to the Court of Appeal the instigation of hatred in a democratic society constitutes such a serious matter that a general interest is at stake in order to draw a clear boundary in the public debate.

As regards the insult of a group the Court of Appeal makes a distinction. In general the Court determines that the traditional Dutch culture of debating is based on tolerance of each others views to a large extent while Islamic immigrants may be expected to have consideration for the existing sentiments in the Netherlands as regards their belief, which is partly at odds with Dutch and European values and norms. As regards insulting statements the Court of Appeal prefers the political, public and other legal counter forces rather than the criminal law, as a result of which an active participation to the public debate, by moslims as well, is promoted.

However, the Court of Appeal makes an exception as regards insulting statements in which a connection with Nazism is made (for instance by comparing the Koran with “Mein Kampf”). The Court of Appeal considers this insulting to such a degree for a community of Islamic worshippers that a general interest is deemed to be present in order to prosecute Wilders because of this.

The Court of Appeal concludes that the way in which the public debate about controversial issues is held, such as the immigration and integration debate, does not fall within the ambit of the law in principle indeed, but the situation changes when fundamental boundaries are exceeded. Then criminal law does appear as well.

Otherwise, the Court of Appeal emphasizes that this is a provisional judgment in the sense that Wilders has not been convicted in this suit of complaint. The Court of Appeal has only judged whether there are sufficient indications – at the level of a reasonable suspicion – to start a criminal prosecution against Wilders. The penal judge who will ultimately render judgment in a public criminal trial will answer the question if there is ground for conviction, and if so, to which extent.

Malika Karoum not fired

Malika's lawyer Han Jahae informed TV program RTL Boulevard today that his client is currently suspended from her job but that she is not fired.

In itself this is not an uncommon occurrence that a company suspends an employee that is the focus of unwanted attention, guilty or not. When push comes to shove, companies are about the bottom line and profit and they cannot afford to draw unwanted attention, especially in the real estate sector when the accusation is money laundering.

Therefore private-dick Jaques Smits allegations that Malika is fired after the intelligence service in Dubai 'presented convincing evidence' to her employer is again utter bogus.

The intelligence service doing that would be kinda odd. If there is convincing proof that Malika is guilty of anything, she would have been arrested, by the police. The intelligence service or the police would not have gone to her employer with such evidence.

In that same TV program, crime reporter John van de Heuvel confirmed again that in the Netherlands there is no criminal investigation against Malika Karoum.

Arrest warrant out for ex-husband of Malika Karoum

There is a warrant out for the arrest of Mohammed Boulnouar. Several customers of his travelagency have filed charges of fraud against him when they found out that the money they had saved up and paid to Boulnouar for the hadj to Mekka had vanished and that they would not travel.

Boulnouar claims that he was the victim of a robbery on Friday 31 Okt when he wanted to deliver about 300.000 Euro's in cash and several hundred passports to Royal Jordanian Airways. Supposedly, the robbers, who were not seen by any one but Boulnouar had told him they were sent by 'Malika'.

Malika Karoum is Boulnouars ex-wife who is engaged in a fierce custody battle with Mohammed Boulnouar that has led Boulnouar and self proclaimed kid-hunter Jacques Smit to spread serious but unsubstantiated rumours about her.

Boulnouars customers do not believe that he was robbed. Oddly enough some of them were told by another employee of the travelagency that if they paid another 1500 euro's they would be able to travel. Odd of course if the pasports are also stolen.

Boulnouar is in hiding since last monday November 3. His partner in the travelagency however says that he is not in hiding but too shocked to talk to anyone.

The money was not insured. The insurance was only valid during transport with a backup car following the transport but it has never come to that.

Malika Karoum possibly extradited? Doubt it!

According to dutch weekly Nieuwe Revu, Malika Karoum might be extradited by Dubai. Again the by now completely milked out allegations of money-laundering and  organized crime iare mentioned though currently it seem that these allegations solely come from the phantasy of self-proclaimed kid-hunter Jacques Smits and Mohammed Boulnouar, Malika's ex-husband .

Until now, there is no proof that the sole interest of the justice department in Malika is ianything else than in connection with a child custody case between her and her estranged husband.

This ex-husband supposedly was threathened again by an unknown assailant with a gun and silencer. Boulnouar -again supposedly- just barely managed to escape into snackbar Samar on the Amsterdam Bos-en Lommerweg. Indeed, at this snackbar he was seen coming in screamingly but no one say the assaillant. The police is looking for witnesses. Most likely there was no shooting and if I may add, most likely there was no assaillant.

Malika's ex has filed criminal complaints against Malika several times before. These included intimidation, arsony and battery, though his attackers only once -supposedly- indicated 'they had a message from Malika'.

In May the court awarded custody to Boulnouar, but Malika is firecely resisting. Her lawyer has requested revision of the May 2008 verdict. That case will serve December 1.

Boulnouar's lawyer, Emma Swart, wants to raise hell at the DA's office to ensure that Malika attends in person, she tells Nieuwe Revu. "It cannot be that the child that is formally awarded to her father, remains in Dubai".

That of course is a nonsense statement of Ms Swart. Malika can choose to appear in person and that has nothing to do with the whereabouts of her child and on top of that Malika has the right to be represented -at proxy- by legal council.

The arrest of Ryan Pieters- Rounding up the usual suspects

The arrest of Ryan Pieters, a suspect in the recent abduction of Bonaire based dutch pharmacy assistent Marlies van der Kouwe who was abducted on Bonaire in the Dutch Antilles saturday night 20 Sept is based on one fact and one fact alone: his rapsheet

Ryan Pieters has a prior arrest and conviction for rape and abduction of a Chech tourist in 2002 and he was recently released from Curaçao's Bon Futura prison and had returned to Bonaire. In reality that is not the only reason why he emerged on the radarscreen of Bonaire's finest. Another compelling reason was simply that they could not think of anybody else.

So imagine the state at Bonaires Police headquarters where police chief Jan Schagen only heard in the course of Monday 22nd of September that a girl had been abducted the fridaynight before and his constables only action was to pick up her lost slipper and shrug their shoulders.

When they could not find any leads and in a desperate move to avoid the Natalee Holloway disaster that plagued Bonaire's sister island a few years before they turned to the only thing the police is good at: Rounding up the usual suspects. Since Bonaire is aonly a small island, they only had one, which ofcourse makes it easier for the police. They do not have to decide by tossing a coin 'who dunnit' as they only have one suspect.

So after it was decided who must be the culprit, now Bonaire's finest is doing everything they can to prove that Ryan Pieters did it and refuse to be distracted by the facts.
Helped by the media tidbits of info are released that have a single goal: to convince everybody that Ryan did it. This strategy is not unknown in the Netherlands as is proven by many judicial errors in which people were convicted to long jailsentences while a child could see there was no evidence.
Obviuously this strategy is now also being adopted by Bonaire, by Dutch police chief Schagen.

So what is the incriminating evidence:
  • A scooter 'similar to the one used in the abduction' was found mud covered and 'hidden' in a shed at Ryan's uncle's house. The mud was of a type that was identical to the mud at the scene of the crime. That is pure bogus. All scooters look basically alike and it is a popular mode of transport in Bonaire. Marlies was abducted on a public thruway, where Ryan or anybody else could have passed on that scooter any given day. Besides on small island like aruba chances are all the mud is basically the same. The scooter was not 'hidden', it was just parked in a shed. Nevertheless finding the scooter was reason for the arrest of Pieters. They might as well have arrested anybody occupying a house where a scooter was parked.
  • Then last week suddenly a 'breakthrough' was claimed. There was a 'partial confession' whatever that may mean. Apparently according to the newspapers and many blogs on the subject. Ryan had admitted to have had contact with Marlies the night before and supposedly insinuated that 'something had happened' between the two. For one thing: Kralendijk, the main town on Bonaire is so small it would fit in Yankee stadium with room to spare and everybody runs into eachother when they go out in the towns only watering hole. More importantly however is the fact that yesterday it became clear that Pieters has not said this at all. He only has tolld investigators that he had seen Marlies around and about on the town. Well, as said, it is a small town.

Because the police already made up their mind who the culprit is, any evidence possibly leading to another conclusion or even another perpetrator must be strictly ignored. So ignored is the fact that it might be case of mistaken identity. Last week Wouter van Kouwen (a supposed criminal who turned state evidence) the father of Jaymelee van Kouwen - note the similarity in names with Marlies- a girl who is roughly the same age and has the same looks as Marlies and who works in a shop next to the bar where Marlies partied before her abduction, reported that he received a phonecall demanding a ransome for the release of his daugther Jayme. Even more: Van Kouwen's other daugther -8 year old Bo- fell victim to a failed abduction in Bonaire, on Wednesday 24 sept, only a few days after the abduction of Marlies.

The police however declare the two abductions to be unrelated and just 'coincidental'. Also, they have stated that the ransome phonecall 'did not happen'. Unfortunately they stated this without even investigating and did not even contact Wouter van Kouwen to ask about it. Until today he still is waiting for the police to ask him about it.

Another unfortunate mishap for the police that they are ignoring in order not to be confused by the facts is that Ryan has an alibi for that evening and a large part of the night: his girlfriend. Even though she cannot testify to his whereabouts 'every minute' of that evening and night, it hardly seems likely that Ryan left his girlfriend to go abduct and rape someone and had time enough to dispose of the body in a way that the police has been unable to find her: Bonaire is only 288 sq km.

None of us knows if Ryan indeed abducted and possibly raped and killed Marlies, but it seems that his arrest and the subsequent investigation is done out of a desire to produce results. Who cares if he did it, as long as he can be convicted. Anything to avoid receiving Natalee Holloway like criticism and see tourist numbers to the island dwindle.

British Diver held in Honduras after Dutch student dies

British diving instructor Daniel Ross (30), is being held in Honduras after one of his students, Dutch tourist Mariska Mast (23),  collapsed in his bathroom and later died.

Dan Ross spent several days in a notoriously grim jail in Coxen Hole on the Honduran island of Roatan before being transferred to a police station following the intervention of British diplomats.

Mr Ross, who holds dual British and Australian nationality, has yet to be charged with any crime but, as a foreigner, the Hondurans consider him a flight risk.

He told police that Mariska Mast collapsed suddenly on his bathroom floor at around 3am last Friday after they had gone out drinking.
After monitoring her condition for two hours with a Korean woman with whom he shared the flat, Mr Ross noticed her breathing had stopped and immediately performed cardiopulmonary resusciation (CPR).

According to British officials, Mr Ross took her to hospital but, unable to converse with Spanish-speaking doctors who signaled that he had to leave, he returned to his home in the island's West End district.

Finding his housekeeper cleaning up after the incident, he helped her - unaware that Miss Mast had died and that they were removing vital evidence.
Mat Harper, the British Honorary Consul on Roatan, said he was visiting Mr Ross every day with food and reading materials.

He said: “He's in pretty good shape. He's being detained as a matter of course as, under Honduran law, he was associated with the woman who died.”
He added: “He's being held for questioning because the Hondurans want to ascertain exactly what happened that night.”
An autopsy at the weekend was inconclusive but Mr Ross's fate will become clear at a second hearing when the Hondurans must decide whether to charge or release him.

Mr Ross, who was born in Australia but is understood to have a British mother, had been on Roatan since March. He taught at the British-owned Coconut Tree Divers diving school, where he had completed both his diving and instructor training .
Staff at the school said they were "horrified" by his situation and described Mr Ross as a “great guy”.

A fellow teacher said: “It's really harsh. In the diving industry, we're taught to administer CPR and first aid. Dan went into the mode that all of us go into when that happens.”

The intestines murder

A man who killed his girlfriend by pulling out her intestines through anus and vagina has his sentenced reduced from 13 to 12 years imprisonment. This seems a rather short sentence regarding the fact that in the case of the manslaugther that turned out to be suicide in Nuenen the innocent husband received 12 years as well, Harold R received 13 years for the so called 'car trunk murder' and Aldo G. received a life sentence for supposedly ordering the death of two Brazilian coke traffickers (the so called 'A12 murders'), even though there is no hard evidence linking him to the crime and the true criminal behind the crime and self confessed murderer of 24 people, Filipo Cerfeda only received 10 years (the main part of which he may serve at home. Similarly Louis Hageman was sentenced to life on questionable evidence for 2 murders

Ed Louwes deserves a retrial? He deserves freedom

Deventer Murder

In an evening filling broadcast, Dutch newsprogram 'Nova' presented the facts in the 'Deventer moord' (Deventer murder) in wich accountant Ed Louwes has been convicted. As had already been clear to most people, except the judicial system and Peter R de Vries, the evidence on which Ed Louwes has been convicted to a 12 year sentence, was very very shaky if not non-existent.
